Why do you procrastinate? Do you have suggestions for staying on task?

Because I never make time to do the things I should.

There is always "something else to do first".
Best suggestion I ever got: "Schedule your quilting time just like a "must do" appointment, and then MAKE THAT APPOINTMENT".

I think I procrastinate because I don't have a schedule. I am at the age of life that I'm not in a hurry to accomplish things anymore. People don't care. Things wait and are there when I get around to them. Now if an opportunity arises, I am on board!
My house waits for attention- no one is hardly around to see my messes anyways so why hurry to get things done?
I am enjoying life.
So if you would like me to do something don't say whenever, no hurry!
I kick myself sometimes when I think about all that I could accomplish if I would stop playing solitaire so much. If someone would say how's.... coming, I would get it done a lot faster. People are too nice.
I often wonder what happened? When the kids were little I got a lot of stuff done, my house was picked  up and cleaned, my ironing pile was very minimal, mending was caught up and I was working and volunteering lots. h-m-m-m what did happen??
Sewing retreats are a wonderful solution!

I love to procrastinate, what can I say. I keep it in control by taking a FULL day out and just doing things that don't have to get done. I love working on Geneology, which takes lots of time and is an excuse from getting on task. At the end of the day, I feel refeshed, ready to get back working on a quilt, entering a show or whatever must get done in a timely manner. I, also, find time to exercise every day, a walk, a 7 mile hike, a snowshoe which releaves the tension and makes my art better. What can I say, just make art, even bad art!!! Patty Joy

I procastinate on sewing and quilting projects because I scare myself by questioning my abilities and being afraid to mess up an important project.

The way I stay on task is I set an alarm and allow myself a specific amount of time to work on a project. I keep a list of the projects/tasks I want to accomplish in a week and check them off as I work on them.  I go by the philosophy that one can only eat an elephant one bite at a time.  That keeps me from feeling overwhelmed, and that keeps me motivated.

A good way to stay on task and not procrastinate is to buy one of those white marker boards at the office supply stores. Write down for instance 3 tasks that you would like to do for the day and number them. Place the board where you will see it all of time. Perhaps in a hallway or the kitchen where you will always be reminded of the task. Now, if you do even one of the tasks, you just mark a star next to it  (kind of like an award to the mind) and from there on it should be easier to take on the task. If you do not do all of the tasks, just re-number them for the next day and do not punish yourself for not doing some. The next day you start over again and with time you will be amazed on how much you get done. Don't forget the stars!
